Last couple of days I've been busy trying to get UMS to display subtitles properly on my PS4, and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what it was.
After a couple of clean installs, and enabling features one by one, I figured that with "GPU acceleration" enabled, for some reason ...

Are the files you're streaming on the SSD, or are they on a HDD?
If the latter, try moving the file, temporarily to the SSD, it could be the HDD.
I had an HDD bottleneck issue, which was resolved by streaming from a different, faster HDD.
