I Have Two Probems with the Media Libary
The first one is its showing the new Equalizer TV Series from 2021 that has 5 season and 10 episodes a season when its the original Equalizer TV Series with Edward Woodward in from 1986 to 1989, it only has 4 seasons and 22 episodes a season not 10 episodes, shame it never recognised it because how many episodes it has..?
And the second problem is it moved some of the Star Trek Episodes from STTNG and Voygager and put them into a different folders in the media library only, its not moved the files just moved them in the library, I think we need more control over the media library and what its showing, it gets the info from the internet so can be wrong so need to be able to change info or images in a Film or TV programme...?
Where is the media library info kept on the drive, in program files or program data, its info, and images it downloads from the net so you can see the DVD box of the programmes or films...?
Idea, maybe it could be kept in the drive/folder where the videos are kept, that you share, so you can change it and better because it bigger in size compered to the C: drive, my drive for videos is 2TB my c: drive is like 223GB(14GB left) so if images are stored on it then the media library is going fill up quick as I add more videos.
Any help would be great, thanks for making UMS, I first used this on my PS3 years ago when it was PMS...
, still have my PS3..

Re: I Have Two Probems with the Media Libary
Since all your videos had already been scanned it does not request metadata so I could not check to see how those are being identified.
I guess TNG in the file name is too vague and needs to be the full "The Next Generation", and may need to be in the format s02e17 instead of 2x17
Each file is scanned individually so UMS has no idea what other files are in that folder at that time to infer more context, it can only go off the filename.
I don't think it even takes in the folder path into consideration.
If a series has been remade/rebooted but the name is the same there is no way of identifying which series it belongs too. If you add the year in the filename it will help to differentiate it.
Most matching problems is due to how the file has been named, if it does not follow convention then is less likely to be matched to the online databases so will just show as a default folder with no data.
This is more to do with how the online databases have been standardised than how UMS identifys them.
They should be using the same convention as Plex and Kodi so this will help getting the right filenames.
There are bulk renaming tools that will automate the renaming but I don't have any recommendations.
I use Directory Opus as a windows file explorer replacement and that has one built in.
All metadata and thumbnails are stored in the database in C:\ProgramData\UMS\database but is not user editable.
There are kept here as it is very quick to access the one database file then randomly accessing files all over the drive and would be much worse if on a hard drive.
There was a recent function added to clear all thumbnails when they are incorrect and I suggested they can add the option to do it for a individual file or series instead of everything and add the ability to do the same with metadata. This should be in the next release I think.
At the moment to rescan the files they will need to be "new" to UMS so you can rename them or move to another folder and this will trigger a scan to get new data.

Re: I Have Two Probems with the Media Libary
OK, Thanks for replying...
In Plex Media Server you can edit the library so if it shows a TV Show or Film wrong you can change it and it don't split Star Trek up and shows the right Equalizer from 1985 not 2021. like in UMS..?
So my library in Plex Media Server is ok, it jut not in UMS, I use both PMS and UMS on my PC.

Re: I Have Two Probems with the Media Libary
At the moment there is no way to edit local metadata (this might happen in the future) so UMS relies on matching filenames to online databases.
I know there has been a lot of work in improving matches for ambiguous filenames (like a year in title not release year) where it could match another series but is hard to account for every possibility.
Having your filenames conform to the conventional standard is the best way to get the right metadata and don't use abbreviations.
TNG, TOS, STV, GOT, etc could mean anything to these databases even if theses are commonly used when talking about these series's.
