Hi duds :D

in advance I'm from germany and my english still out school days so I hope you will understand me... to complete my profile, I am just a user :D

After update on version 14.11, befor that I used the version 14.6, I get permanently warnings like:

- "Could not parse device descriptor"
- "Could not parse device DOM"
- "Could not hydrate device or its services from descriptor"
- "Can't parse device type string"
--> you See in the Log

I can watch videos like normal but the LG TV Oled 77C17LB (client: 192.168.178.8) no longer displays thumbnails / preview

I have already tried the following, “clear install” of multiple versions back to 14.8 without success.
Only from version 14.6 onwards do warnings no longer appear and the thumbnails are displayed again.
I have also installed version 14.11 on another computer on which no UMS was previously installed.
These errors also appeared there and the thumbnails did not work

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be or does it mean I'm out with version 14.6?

THX

Those warnings can be ignored. There was a change to another networking library that logs much more than the old one.
These will not be logged in the next release.

Those are coming from 192.168.178.8 so it may be related to the thumbnail problem as this is the TV they do not show on, otherwise it should be working and I can see the thumbnails are being sent.

I know there were recent changes to prevent the thumbnails triggering a played event as the TV can create animated thumbnails itself.
Maybe it did not not work well in this version but I think was fixed in the next but not sure.

Thank you for your reply!
That means I can't do anything else for this time only waiting for the new version.

Hello everyone, I need to revisit this topic in a slightly modified form. When I originally wrote this, I thought the thumbnails weren't working because of the “Could not parse device descriptor” error. However, the thumbnails work fine up to version 13.10.1, but from version 14 onwards, there are problems with my two LG TVs with WebOS. This means I cannot use any version newer than 13.10.1. If no one here can help me, I will unfortunately have to switch to another player :-(

Your TV is probably keeping a cache of the thumbnails so that could be why they are different.
There was also a problem a quite a few versions ago that has been fixed where clearing the cache in UMS would mix up all the data and swap thumbnails and video titles around.

Try a "clean install" of the latest version so there is no errors in the database and look on your TV for a way to clear history.

Someone else had the same issue on their LG for album art and shared one way how to fix it here

If it still happens could you post logs from the latest version?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I set up a new server on which only 13.10.1 was installed, no previous version. The thumbnails from this instance work without any problems.

I still had the 14 versions installed on my previous server, but at some point I noticed that the thumbnails and movies were increasingly not matching up,
with some thumbnails being assigned to the wrong movies.

At some point, after countless clean installations of older versions, I came across the latest 13.10.1 version, which works perfectly.

According to a.i., the LG TV (WebOS) requests thumbnails from the DLAN server, which are provided by UMS, but from version 14 onwards,
these thumbnails (images) have become more restrictive, so that the TV cannot use them. Is that correct?

I am currently installing newer versions with a clean install on my laptop, giving the server a different name and
checking whether the client recognition (renderer) is working and whether the thumbnails are displayed,
unfortunately without success in the latter case (thumbnails)

Note: in version 13.10.1, the same renderer is recognized as in version 15.3 (LG WebOS).
So the problem should have nothing to do with the recognition of the renderer.

AI does not know anything so I would not rely on that.

Like I said your TV will have a cache of the thumbnails from the old version and the IDs will not match the correct thumbnail in the current one so the wrong one will be retrieved.

You can confirm UMS is using the right thumbnails by using another device, or even the web player.
If those are correct but the TV is not then it is the fault of the TV and you need to clear its cache or delete its history.

Try what was suggested in that linked post

Close the Media Player app
Go to network settings and disconnect the TV from the network
Re-open Media Player, which tries to refresh, the refresh fails, and the media server disappears from the list of available media. Exit the app.
Go back to network settings and reconnect
Re-open Media Player. The media server now reappears in the list and everything is back to normal.

(Also seems it's best to wait for UMS to finish updating its database before doing this.)
From V14 the networking code was moved to another system and maybe that that change could be why they are not being updated on the TV.
It was added as an option in 14.1 but made default in 14.3 so is probably not the cause if this happened in v14 and more likely a restructure of the database which would also change any existing IDs.
