I've been looking for a way to send the monitoring output from my mixing console to my Android tablet over my WiFi network. I'm told one way to do this is with a DLNA server, but have found that most of these are primarily designed to play media files, which is not what I'm looking for.

I can send an audio output over USB from my mixer to a mini-PC in my audio rack and would like to send that signal via my wifi network to my tablet so that I can listen to and adjust solo'd channels in headphones. Is this possible with UMS?

An additional question would be whether I need an Internet connection to use UMS since I'm never online when mixing a band.

I'm not sure if UMS is the program you want and there maybe something better suited for you needs.
In theory you could set up UMS to do it but will take some experimentation as I'm not entirely sure how to do it.

UMS is able to connect to a web audio stream like internet radio stations to send to a device but I don't see why it would not work for a local audio.

You may need something to convert the USB audio feed in to a audio stream first, like OBS (I know people have used this to stream their desktop screen), then put the streaming address into the shared content as an audio stream but I am not sure about this. It may be possible to select the file if you are recording the audio but don't think you can set the USB audio itself as the source. One problem I see with this that might make it unsuitable for you is that there will be some delay between the audio in and it being sent to your device but I don't know much this will be. If this is not critical and only for monitoring then should be OK.


You do not need to be connected to the internet, this is for getting metadata like cover art and episode info for videos and you can even turn this off if you never need it.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'm not too worried about latency as I'll be listening in headphones and somewhat isolated from what's coming from the stage anyway. Gonna give it a shot and see if I can make it work.
