Low audio volume

Hello people,
when I stream to my LG TV "Media Player" the most of the audio tracks are very low in volume. Especially the non-English tracks. Is there a way to tell UMS to send audio with increased gain?

Not sure if this still works but I think it does.
In your conf file for your LG TV (EG: LG-WebOS.conf or the one your TV is using), you can add this in the top section.
MaxVolume = 200
Place it in the section where this type of information is:
H264LevelLimit = 5.1
DefaultVBVBufSize = true
SeekByTime = true
ChunkedTransfer = true
MuxNonMod4Resolution = true
Probably not needed but stop and start UMS after adding it.

that doesn't change the gain and the volume at the LG TV remains the same because I can only go to 100% at the TV. Somehow I need to manipulate the gain of the source audio.

If the video is being streamed it is just how the audio is encoded and you will just have to increase the volume on the TV.
Even if it is being transcoded it should not alter the audio levels though.
You could use custom FFmpeg options to increase the volume but will require transcoding which is best avoided
I saw some info on this
here and set using
Code: Select all
# Overrides the FFmpeg Audio options in UMS for this renderer.
# Default is empty, which means the UMS settings will be used.
# All setting for output formats, codecs, bitrate e.g. can be used except video,
# audio and subs mapping (-map).
# Example: CustomFFmpegAudioOptions = -af aresample=resampler=soxr -ar 48000
# Default: ""
CustomFFmpegAudioOptions =
I think for normalization it takes several passes so is unsuitable for UMS to do it, but you could manually do this yourself and just let UMS stream the finished video.
However setting custom FFmpeg options would affect any videos that are transcoded so I would not use this if only a few videos have low volume and better to just re-encode those yourself.
If you are needing the volume on the TV to be 100% for all videos then maybe there is a fault with sound on the TV.

There are only mp4, mkv, and rarely avi and mov. The movies are low gain audio. I see that also if I stream them with VLC from file. The difference is, with VLC I can go up to 200%, with UMS I need to use the "Media Server" from LG WebOS and there I can only use the volume from the TV up to 100%. I see the solution with encoding in UMS or gain correction with ffmpeg to each movie but both is not really favorite. If I stream a movie direct from file thru HDMI the quality is slightly lower than streaming with UMS thru Ethernet. Therefore it would be great but it's not the end of the world.

As far as I know:
MaxVolume = 200
Is (provided it is still a valid option) meant to change the source volume.
