Shuffle audio

Hi,
Just installed UMS. Seems to work great so far, though I'm missing the ability to play shuffle music. My previous media server allowed me to play 100 random audio tracks. I don't see such an option on USM.
Am I missing something ?

Thanks in advance

UMS is more focussed on videos so there are limited audio features on the web interface.
However there are apps that can be used as a control point will handle things like shuffling and should work with UMS.
I don't use this myself so not sure of the best apps, but I remember BubbleUPnP being mentioned.

thank you ! I'll check BubbleUPnP and see if I can use it.

Yeah, that works well for Android devices. JPLAY is well on iPhone. As an alternative Web Frontend you can try https://sf666.github.io/nextcp2/

That NextCP looks very good and well polished. I wish UMS has something similar for playing audio in the web browser.
The current implementation does work but is the bare minimum that I don't think many would use.

Is this one of your projects?
Maybe it could be possible to integrate it into UMS, or at least have an option to switch to it when playing audio.
As I understand it only controls other devices and does not play audio itself.
Would it be possible to add the ability to play in the browser too?

Yes — I'm the developer of nextCP. I started it as a standalone control point implementation with a focus on playing audio files.

As a control point, nextCP itself doesn't play the audio; it relies on a separate media renderer (player) to do that. If I understand your question correctly, you're asking whether we could instead just use the browser's own audio output as the renderer.

Most likely yes — but it isn't implemented yet. I've opened an issue on GitHub to track it and will look into how much effort it would take.

BubbleUPnP has worked well for me for exactly this. Point it at UMS as the library and your TV or speaker as the renderer, then you can shuffle a whole folder or a filtered list of tracks. It keeps the queue on the phone, so it survives switching renderers too.
