best to stream to tv or dvd/audio?

Hi,
I have both a vizio smart tv and an older cheap sony dvd/home theater. Both can support dlna. Being a novice, curious for your thoughts on if it's better to stream to the dvd/theater player (which send video to the tv) or else to the tv directly (which has hdmi arc back to the sound).
Any reason to do one or the other?
