If you need to be spoon fed and don't even know computer basics like checking if UMS is running or not, then this free media server is probably not for you.

Yeah this is the buggiest app I've ever used.
And I'm a developer since 1988, done a lot of video/audio transcoding as I was alive and active WHILE they were actually invented.

If you are a developer then you should contribute to making it better and fix these bugs. Have a look at https://github.com/UniversalMediaServer ... diaServer/
I know one regular contributor has not been active for several months so things have been a bit slow when it comes to fixing bugs.

This is a hobby for a few Devs that have full time day jobs and other things happening in their lives.
They don't have the resources as big companies like Plex etc with hundreds of devs working on this and can develop their own program to be installed on TVs with known capabilities.
UMS has to be able to work with the existing media player on any device with unknown support and strange quirks so this is why you can make renderer confs that say what that device can support. They do not have access to every device out there so have to rely on users to modify existing confs to improve them.

Most of the problems people have is confs not available for their device or UMS has been set up wrong.
I try my best to help people with this but can only do so much and can't do any testing.

This is also free so they are not making any money from this. Most of the donations go to things like running of the website.

They do have Patreon for people that want to support them and gives them early access to a release but the code is public so nothing stopping anyone from compiling their own to get the latest version. I was given a build script to do this automatically any time I want so I could test and try and catch any major bugs, but the instructions are on Github on how to do it manually.
