Does tsMuxer support subtitles?

Post by Shangri La »

Hi, I have some mkv files with Dolby Vision and embedded subtitles, type S_TEXT/UTF8. I'm using tsMuxer to play them on my LG C4 TV. But I can't display optional subtitles. And if there are any forced subtitles, tsmuxer doesn't run (log says no transcoding), and I get subtitles but no Dolby Vision. If I remux the mkv to mp4 manually (with Subler), it works, and the TV can play the subtitles and Dolby Vision. According to the tsmuxer documentation, it does support embedded S_TEXT/UTF8 subtitle tracks. Is there some way to get this to work automatically in UMS with tsMuxer, instead of having to manually remux to mp4?

From what I understand tsMuxer just recombines the audio video and subtitle streams so if the subtitles are in a format the TV can use it will just pass them on.
If the subs are not supported then these will need to be burned in to the video which means a full transcode and not just a copy of the video stream.

I think the S_TEXT/UTF8 is SubRip/SRT after a bit of googling and this should be supported for internal MKV subs.
You could try an external SubRip or ASS/SSA file instead and see if that helps.

I just know getting this all to work well is difficult with all the steps UMS has to go though and subs are a headache with this.

To get an idea of what is actually happening though I will need to see logs.
