Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
I have a video that has not been able to be played since FFMPEG v6.1.1 was updated. I have tried v7.0.2, v8.0.0, v8.0.1, and v8.1.0. All fail except v6.1.1.
I am uploading the log file showing the video in question "Test.Fail.A.Does not play(but Mencoder works).mkv"
The first time in the log file, it is played properly with FFMPEG v6.1.1.
The second time in the log file, it fails to play with FFMPEG v8.1.0.
I am using UMS v15.1.0 (TEST VERSION) from prior problem.

Have tried with UMS v15.4, but still fails.
The TV used is a Sony Bravia HX750.
Thanks.
Kurt

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Could you try again with the latest version?
Those fixes that were made in that snapshot test build will be in main now.
You should also move that mod conf file out of C:\ProgramData\UMS\renderers as it should not be needed any more. I remember this was a workaround for other issues.
And change the ffmpeg path back to default.
Might be better to do a clean install to make sure previous fixes are not interfering. Make a backup of C:\ProgramData\UMS\ first just in case.
There were a few problems I was able to help with in 15.4 that was an issue with subs starting from the beginning if seeking, but have been working fine in 15.5 snapshot after the fix.

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Doing a clean install with v15.4, I lost all my prior settings. The database backup was in the C:\ProgramData\UMS directory, which was wiped clean with the install. I won't do that again.
Anyway, the video that did not play before now plays.....But other videos no longer play properly...the audio/video are out-of-sync and the Fast Forward does not work on any videos. Upon resuming from Fast Forwarding, video is frozen on screen while audio continues on.
The two files that have audio-video (and subtitle) out-of-sync are:
Test.Fail.1.Internal Subs (aud-vid out-of-sync and no subs displayed).mkv
Test.Fail.2.Internal Subs (aud-vid and subs out-of-sync).mkv
The file used for Fast Forwarding testing (although ALL videos have this problem) is:
Test.Fail.3 (FF not working).mkv and Test.Fail.3 (FF not working).srt
Log file is attached.
Thanks.

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Is v15.5, which may fix these issues, going to General Release this weekend?
Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Sorry for the delay, I have just moved and has taken a while to get things organised.
Doing a clean install resets everything to default so it is a clean slate to troubleshoot. I did not want to be chasing problems that were already fixed.
When making a backup it is not a good idea to keep that backup in the same location as the files.
The UMS.conf in your latest logs appear to be from an old version as it still had the shared folders in it and some old settings that are no longer used.
I was hoping to see what was happening when nothing had been changed after a clean install.
You can get your old settings back by re-downloading your previous logs as it contains the UMS.conf but might be better to set it up again from scratch after you confirm it is working.
I think the problem now is the old issue of deferring to mencoder as this setting is still enabled by default. Turning this off should fix the problem.
The issues you mention with 15.4 will be the ones I was able to push a fix for in 15.5 but I have no idea when that will be released.
If you can build it yourself or know someone to do it then you can use it straight away.
If you do get it then try a clean install and only change the defer to mencoder option to off to do more logs.
I suggest you clear out your test folder of the other videos so I can see exactly which ones you are testing, all your previous test videos from past troubleshooting are still showing.

Code: Select all
Switching from FFmpeg to MEncoder to transcode subtitles because the user setting is enabled.

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
I turned off the "Deferring to Mencoder" setting. That fixed the problem with the videos not playing properly.
Then I downloaded the source code for UMS v15.5, manually built it and then installed it.
That fixed the problem with Fast Forwarding and Rewinding.
I think in the future I will do a Portable install of any newer versions and test them before Upgrading my main copy of UMS to make sure everything works properly.
Thanks a million for your help.
An item to note...in the following web page, it says in Step 7 to run command "mvn ..." to build the install executable.
https://support.universalmediaserver.co ... tructions/
It should be "mvnd ...". The command is missing a trailing 'd'.
Otherwise, excellent documentation for building the install executable.
Very much appreciated.

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Did you not see your PM?
I think mvn is correct as that is what is used in the build script I have that automates the process.
There is no mvnd in the Maven bin files, but there is mvnDebug.
This may be a change in a newer version of Maven though.
A portable version would help to isolate it from previous versions for testing.
Just remember that it cant be installed in the programs folder otherwise it will not have permissions to write its config there.
Someone had this problem on Github recently.
Ideally it is for installing to a USB drive so can be easy run on any computer without installing.

Re: Video not playing - FFMPEG v6.1.1 last good version
Sorry, I never got an email notification about a Private Message. I see the download link now.
Ah, I was running MVND.EXE from the BIN directory. I now see there is an MVN and MVN.CMD file in the MVN\BIN directory. Since MVN is not a Windows executable, the only option would be using the MVN.CMD script, which wasn't noted in the UMS Build page. No problem though. I got it to work.
You are correct about the permissions of the C:\Programs folder not having the proper permissions. I changed the permissions to allow the Users group Full Access and it works without any problems.
I also noticed that the size of the build with this version is almost twice as big as prior versions. I'm curious as to what the change was that caused this. At first, I thought I may have done something wrong with the build, but your download link has the same file size that I created.
Thank you again for all your help and support. I am learning more and more of how this works with every release. This team has done an awesome job creating and maintaining this application.
