Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
PS3.. ugh.. I can't get this to burn-in subtitles.
The mkvs I'm working with have embedded SRT subrip subtitles but even playing from the transcode folder doesn't display anything.
An anime mkv that had no embedded SRT but did have ASS and PGS subtitles embedded, UMS went with the ASS one.
So, it is capable to some extent to do so.. but isn't doing it with embedded SRT and I'm not sure where the issue lies, if it's the conf file or the code.
version 15.2

Could you post your logs so I can see what UMS is doing and your settings? See the red section above.

Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
Hi, sorry I didn't make logs yet, but I did today make the observation that if I extract the subtitle track from the embedded mkv and have "Force External" checked, then it will display the subtitle in the directory. This is a workaround.
Playing from the Transcode folder where it says english language audio with english subtitle (forced), they don't display. It can see that there is an English subtitle in the transcode list, it just doesn't display it onscreen.
"eng,on;*,eng" is the string I have in the settings.

Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
I have the same issue, if a file has embedded Forced subtitles, it will simply lose all other subtitles and only offer forced.
Any way to get past this other than using external subtitles?

Could you post your logs so I can see what is happening? See the section in red above.
What do you mean exactly with loosing other subtitles? Do you mean all other subs disappear in the #--TRANSCODE--# folder?

Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
Yeah, #--TRANSCODE--# folder says "unsupported info" at the top, and no other subtitles are shown except the forced subtitles.
However if no forced subtitles are within embedded subtitles, then all subtitles are always displayed.

Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
Here, I tried first opening the "unsupported info" and then the forced subtitle it only offers.

Re: UMS and PS3 , subtitles issues with mkv
The first entry in the #--TRANSCODE--# folder should show as
as this is what UMS is sending.
Maybe the PS3 is not liking this somehow so says "unsupported info" instead.
It might be too long for it to display or it does not like the double square brackets if the other options are visable.
My PS3 is packed up to do any testing on this myself.
There should definitely be more subs available for that video as they are being added to the database
I did some testing on my TV and looks like the forced subtitle issue is still hiding other subs on there too.
I made an issue for this last year but the devs must not have gotten around to check it. I'll update it.
I think the problem was that forced subtitles stopped working a while ago and in fixing it it first checks for any with the forced tag then stops when it is found for normal playback,
but the same logic is used in the #--TRANSCODE--# folder when it should continue checking.
For now the workaround is to change the forced language setting to something random so UMS cannot find a language to use forced subtitles.
However you will have to manually select a forced subtitle for those videos that use it for foreign language scenes.
In theory changing the forced tag should have worked too but I think "forced" is hard coded so it did not work.
