Media Files Not Visible / Your browse data was not received from the server

Post by NeilHoskins »

Tried version 15.8.0 on my PiOS server and it seemed to go OK but all my media files became invisible to UMS (they're still there on the drive). Tried all the usual things, deleted the database, checked permissions, deleted then re-added the share locations in UMS. Nothing. Went back to 15.7.0 and the same. Tried everything again. Tried moving the actual media files to my home folder with wide-open permissions, still nothing. Media is still invisible to VLC on my phone and to my LGTV. Tried the local player on <ipaddress>:9002 and it gives the error "Your browse data was not received from the server". Very disappointed bunny because this has been working fine for months for all our music and photos and has been in use almost every day. Logs attached (hopefully).

I recently ran the build script I was given to try the latest versions and the tests failed with similar errors. I just made an issue about it on Github.
I can get it to compile skipping tests but I got those database errors too.
I can't remember exactly how I fixed it for me as I tried several things, but I think I deleted the database after backing it up so a fresh one is created that does not need to be updated.
I think I used the new backup options to preserve played status and then restored that once all my filed had been scanned.

If you go back a version you probably would need a fresh database as yours may be too different for that version to use now.
Delete /home/neil/.config/UMS/database/medias when UMS is not running and a new one will be built when UMS is started.
Try the backup option first to at least preserve the unique data so you can restore it once it is fixed.

I'll link to this post in that issue so the devs can look into this.

Thanks. Yes, I've deleted the database loads of times so that it will start from scratch. Doesn't make any difference.

Yeah like ikrahne said, you are using JDK v21 which might be the problem. We are designed for Java 17.

15.8.1 fixes one of the incompatibility problems with JDK 21+ though so it might work. I will DM you a link so you can try it
