using Universal media server for web streaming

Post by yanivhanya »

Hello, i have my own servers, windows based, and a couple of sites on them i use IIS and HTTPS in my sites.
one of them i use to stream media *link deleted*
lately i have a lot of problem streaming, and most of the large ?(not so large) are getting stuck in the middle.
i know it is because of the server configuration (web and not stream).

I want to check if i can use universal media streamer for this purpose? to make IIS stream any files (mostly mp3 and mp4) for web users. using it as media stream application for all my www needs.
thanks

UMS is mainly used for streaming your own media on your local network and can relay internet streams to devices that do not support them.

It is not made to serve many people over the internet from streaming servers.
If you want a client for your users to connect with then other media players will be more suitable like VLC.
If you have problems with streaming videos then it will be to do with your server configuration which I know nothing about.

I have not checked your link as I do not trust it and have removed it.

You could try Universal Media Server as an alternative, but the only thing is that it is mainly designed for streaming to devices like Smart TVs or DLNA clients, not for regular web users. For a couple more options, like smoother and more reliable use, try Plex or Jellyfin. They are more designed for web streaming and can handle MP3/MP4 playback with automatic buffering and transcoding.
