Re: Choosing a file to play

Again mik, I really appreciate your help and I admire the passion you have for UMS, but it's just too much dicking around for me. I'm not interested in all the steps I have to go through to get something that still may not be what I'm after. Maybe it'll be there in the future, but it's not for me now.

Re: Choosing a file to play

I have no logs to show you. there's nothing in that section (I'm doing all the settings etc on my laptop then testing on the mobile) Why wouldn't the program have the logs in it? why do I have to go searching for them?

Re: Choosing a file to play

If you used a dedicated media player like VLC then most of the videos will not need to be transcoded in the first place so will use less data.

Can you elaborate on this? I use VLC to play the streamed videos on my phone remotely at the moment, have done for years. I access my media files that ...

Re: Choosing a file to play

Getting a good conf set up for a device will help a lot by telling UMS what it can play and how to transcode if the video is in a format that your device does not support.
To be able to help with this I will need to see logs of how it currently plays.

Honestly I'm over all this. I just want ...

Re: Choosing a file to play

Yes. Usually, most lightweight media servers allow you to connect remotely via a phone app or browser. Also, browse folders and play videos with instant transcoding.
Basically, user management and access to specific folders are configured in the server settings.

Can you suggest one that you ...

Re: Choosing a file to play

Thanks so much for the time and effort mik.

I can see how all that works now.

I gave it a run on my phone at work today casting to chromecast. Internet at work is 25/5 speed. ok for casting SD but HD struggles and lags. I tried playing a 1080p file. it automatically played it at 240p and it ...

Re: Choosing a file to play

cheers mik.

Ok I can do that but the only problem is you have to set the browser page on your phone to 'desktop site' because no files show up on the mobile site. If you set it to desktop site and browse you can access and play the files but the controls are way too tiny and navigating folders is ...

Re: Choosing a file to play

I already have UMS setup and running. I can access it remotely and login. That isn't the issue. The issue is how do I configure it? I can't find a guide. I want to setup another user and give them access to their own folders.

How do I access my files remotely on a mobile phone so I can cast them to ...

Choosing a file to play

Can I just connect remotely with my phone and browse to a folder and choose a video to play from there?

Can I add users and assign them certain folders?

I got rid of Jellyfin because it's trying to be too pretty looking and it's got faults. I thought a simpler program like this was the answer ...
