Regional blocking restrictions

Post by KONTROLMASTER »

Hi! Just would like to ask or to get advice about country restrictions of the database. Is there a way to set up the server to get the metadata without the freezing or stuttering, as it displays in the main window? Have .pac type VPN, it's working, but from the last year, when government or some companies strengthen the security in RF, it gets stuck and only server's restart and another vpn or proxy is working. But what's really strange, the portal is working fine! What could it be at this case?

There should not be any problems with regional blocking when it comes to getting metedata but I cannot comment on specific restrictions of governments.

As I understand how it works is UMS sends a request to the UMS API on this website to then gather the metadata from TMDB or IMDB as a buffer to stop hammering those sites with requests which can get flagged as bot scraping. If a request is rejected then that is added to a queue to try again another time but should not slow anything down.
Once the metadata is received it is stored in the local database so retrieval can be instantaneous.

If you can access this website without problem then it should not have a problem getting metadata.

If you are seeing freezing or stuttering it is probably something on your system and not to do with any regional restriction.
You can test by disabling external networking in the options to prevent any access outside your network and if it is still a freezing it is a local problem.

To know for sure what is happening I would need to see logs of it retrieving metadata.
As files already scanned are in the database you will need to add new files (or make a copy of a folder) when making the logs to see now it gets the metadata.
If you find it is freezing each time UMS is run and no new files have been added it is probably something else.

I'm not sure what you mean with it happing on the main window but not in the portal. Do you mean the old Java GUI but is fine on the web interface?

Yes it is. Haven't especially seek in the webGUI, but sometimes, when stuck, it won't fully loads for the first time while fetching the data and it's needed manual searching. Also have an IP6 tunnel broker, 'cause the ISP won't provide it. Used all of the free available advices for the unblocking on the net, espec. public DNS. Only rely on VPN, with it it's working normally and stable all time! )

Do you mean you have problems watching a video in the web UI but works fine on another renderer. It is not clear what you mean here as seeking has nothing to do with getting metadata.
The database is on your computer so the VPN should not stop getting data from it, and getting metadata from online sources should not slow anything down as any failures will be logged for the next file scan but it will continue.

It could very well be all the VPNs you are using that is interfering with how UMS is supposed to work but won't have anything to do with regional blocking.
Maybe they are not configured right so is blocking local traffic but I don't know anything about VPNs to be much help with it.

Without seeing logs of what is happening I can only guess.

No, there are no problems with videos playback at the web interface in this case. Will see what could be done..... For note, have the "softether" client service a long ago, even before our country's government security blocks. I'll update the message when get the logs. Thanks in consulting for this question.

Seems to be some kind of blocking, while performing the trace test of the db, few addresses aren't available, because it's not fully unlocked with the some settings.
Get it working by changing a few options for IP6.
